Week 1/2:
Draw an ORDINARY OBJECT using TONE.
Week 3/4:
Adapt that object by using different materials.
Week 5/6:
Draw a DREAM you once had.

Task 1:
EXAM 2012 FAILURE TO COMPLETE WILL DIRECTLY INFLUENCE YOUR FINAL GRADE. Create an A2 size study page based on another artist/ photographer/ craftsperson whose work links to the theme “ORDINARY &/OR EXTRAORDINARY”.
The artist study page needs to show some kind of design to it & should be planned out in rough before you begin. You can use the artist analysis worksheet to help you with this task. Write a detailed response to the works of art you are looking at using full sentences and key language. Try to think about the images and what the artist was trying to convey through their work. Find out about the artist you have chosen and demonstrate your knowledge of their life and work to put the images in context.

Task 2:
Using images by the artist you have chosen try to create your own version, replicating pose, lighting etc and also demonstrating your own vision. Use similar materials to the artist. Annotate the work you have completed fully, and present to a high standard in your book.

Now that we are preparing directly for the GCSE examination,it is important that every student attempts to complete one of the main task pairs which follow the exact format of the writing section of the exam paper.

PAIRED TASKS (choose one pair to complete each week, in any order)
A:Every year, the whole of year 10 are given a work experience fortnight. Write the text of a speech to be delivered in assembly in which you advise students on what to expect and how to make the most of the experience (spend 25 minutes)
A: We all have role-models. Describe someone that you know, or someone that you know a lot about, and explain what makes them a role model. (spend 35 minutes)

B: Exams are fast approaching and stress is rising in your school. Write an article for a school magazine in which you explain to families and carers how they can offer support in the run up to exams. (spend 25 minutes)
B: An article you read recently in a national newspaper suggested that in families where there are mobile phones, relationships between parents and children are actually getting worse. Write a letter to the newspaper in which you argue for or against this idea. (spend 35 minutes)

C: Most people know that they should have a healthy lifestyle, but often people need reminding how to achieve this. Write the text of a leaflet which informs people of some ways to keep healthy. (spend 25 minutes)
C: At a school council meeting, the school environment was brought up as an area for concern. Write a speech for an assembly in which you persuade pupils that we all have a responsibility for maintaining the school environment. (spend 35 minutes)

D: Starting a new school can be a frightening prospect. This year your school has started a scheme where year 11s send a letter to an unknown new year 7. Letters are sent out randomly. Write a letter in which you provide advice to help a new year 7 settle into your school. (spend 25 minutes)
D: Every area has its good points and its bad. Describe the positives and negatives of your area in an article for the contrasting worlds section of your local newspaper. (spend 35 minutes)

E: Imagine you are working for a local youth initiative which aims to give youngsters free opportunities to learn skills, play sports, and socialize in the long summer holidays. Write the text for a website aimed at 11-14 year olds, which informs them about the various activities on offer. (spend 25 minutes)
E: One of the only areas not to be hit by the recession is the world of celebrity. Write an article in which you argue for or against the statement “Celebrities are not value for money.”(spend 35 minutes)

Once you have completed a pair of tasks, evaluate your responses. Consider the impact of the opening and closing paragraphs, the range of sentence openers and types and the range of punctuation you have used. Create a key for all the techniques you have used and indicate in the margin where each technique has been applied.
